What is the difference between the RapidSSL certificate, Geotrust QuickSSL certificate and Geotrust QuickSSL Premium certificate?

On a technical level, all certificate types will work to secure your website and provide site encryption. To be clear; all certificates will work to secure your website and provide SSL encryption. The most fundamental difference between the types is brand recognition. RapidSSL is a "basic" certificate by comparison, and some users may feel safer using sites that are secured via Geotrust QuickSSL instead. There are, however, some other differences:

RapidSSL
  • Can secure both the www. and non-www variant of your domain name in a single certificate

QuickSSL
  • Cannot secure both the www. and non-www variant of your domain name. You will need to choose one or the other during the certificate creation process.
  • $100,000 Geotrust Warranty. The GeoTrust warranty program protects end users in the event that they incur a loss due to GeoTrust mis-issuing an SSL certificate.

QuickSSL Premium
  • Can secure both the www. and non-www variant of your domain name in a single certificate
  • $100,000 Geotrust Warranty. The GeoTrust warranty program protects end users in the event that they incur a loss due to GeoTrust mis-issuing an SSL certificate.
