First of all, Happy New Year! We hope that 2012 is a prosperous new year for you all. At this* we have some great things planned for 2012, but we wanted to get some feedback from you all as to what you would want to see from us.

So let us start the new year with a poll. Is Geographical based hosting something you would be interested in? To clarify the question for those who may be unfamiliar with the term(s), we essentially mean would you prefer to see a choice of hosting servers based on different countries? That is, when purchasing hosting you could choose to have your account based in the US, Europe, UK, etc. Initially these options would likely be limited to the UK and US, but we would look at expanding them in future.

I voted “yes” – though I have to be honest and say, that was sort of a guess. I mean, I suppose I’m just not clear on what the benefits or drawbacks would be… could you maybe elaborate a little on why we might or might not want to make use of such a feature?

From a technical perspective, having the site closer to your main client base can improve the speed of the site (due to less latency). In other situations it may require that specific laws cause you to need hosting in your particular country of origin. For example, I know there are some privacy laws in the UK that mean you cannot store certain information outside of the UK so your website would need to be completely hosted within the UK.

I voted NO because my site is pretty small target audience come from everywhere, so location won’t matter in my case.

But a big thumbs up for thinking in this direction, many of your clients might be already seeking this and can be benefited đŸ™‚
