Customer DNS editing is something we’ve previously limited to resellers only. The reason behind this is that, simply put, it’s very easy to make a mistake when adding or editing DNS and subsequently it’s possible to cause significant issues with an account. Many of you have asked, however, if/when this will become available – so we’ve decided to open this option up for everyone now.

The edit the DNS for your domain, simply login to your cPanel account and look for ‘Advanced DNS Zone Editor’. Resellers (with WHM Access) can still edit all of their clients DNS via WHM directly – or can edit it in this fashion. You can now add/edit A records, CNAME and TXT records. MX records will still need to be edited via the ‘MX Entry’ option of cPanel.

As one of your customers who wanted this feature, thank you!

I can imagine what trust this takes in your customers to open that up, as it is indeed easy for someone to really screw things up. I would have no idea what that’s like personally however…but I have this friend, yeah that’s the ticket…this friend, who really botched up one of his sites years ago messing with the DNS.

As someone who has started playing around with different resources on multiple servers, I also thank you guys. This has made directing subdomains to different servers via A records so much easier. Especially since with my old hosting company I would have to email support every time I needed a custom setup like this.

    sounds good :-)

does this mean we can create custom name server (ns1, ns2, ns3, etc) records?

    eg:
    http://www.example.com (ns1.example.com, ns2.example.com, …)

many thanks (if that’s the case!) and keep up the great work!

@roberto: Custom nameserver records are added by default, but effectively this change means you can have full and complete control over your DNS records.
