Today we’re delighted to report that we’ve deployed our fourth shared hosting server, which we’ve dubbed ‘Jane’. To celebrate our increasing growth, we’ve decided to offer the first 50 accounts on Jane a 20% discount for life (meaning the duration of the account). This discount will apply to any package on any term, and can be obtained by entering the coupon code ‘THISJANE’ (without quotes) during the order process.

    @Darfuria: Good question ;)

    I could be wrong, but I at least was taught/got into the habit of considering a server of female grammatical gender (nouns). Each server needs a hostname, so it seemed fitting to give them a corresponding female name.

    In regards to the names themselves, they’re chosen by staff, so they may have special meaning – we try not to dig too deep ;)

    Servers and their names, seriously :)

    My college called their servers after Simpson’s characters and now my uni has a server for us called tinky-winky after teletubbies.

    Jane is a bit of a challenging name for a lowly server to live up too :)

    Funnily enough, that’s exactly where the name’s inspiration came from (according to the staff member who chose it)!

    I’m currently in the process of reading the first book, so I don’t understand the connection yet, but I’m enjoying it thus far :)

    You’ll laugh when you get to Speaker for the Dead and realize what this server has to become to live up to a name like that :)

    Anyways, I hope you enjoy the books, they’re certainly my favorite!

    ps: where is your data centre? (i’m in nz so hope it’s somewhere on/near the west coast! oh and it is in the states right? although ‘jane’ is quite english – like moi!)

    @roberto I’m afraid this coupon is no longer valid. We don’t have our own data center (very very few hosts do), but we co-locate our servers with LiquidWeb in Lansing, Michigan, USA.

    We’ll look into the commenting formatting and try to include the date and time, thanks for the feedback :)
